Cricket!

A couple Sundays ago, February 4, we attended the Australia v. New Zealand cricket match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Over eight hours later, play finally ended with Australia coming out on top during a very exciting final hour. I won't bore you with the details of the rules of cricket, just with some photos from that very long afternoon:

Here are Stephen, Erin and I enjoying the match. Stephen and I are decked out in the Aussie colors of green and gold.Jay and Josh are still exhausted from a long weekend of wineries and Wilson's Prom... surprisingly no one fell full on asleep during the slow middle hours of the match.

A shot of MCG, where you can see the immensity of the playing field. This was taken during one of the numerous renditions of the "Mexican Wave," a crowd activity technically banned at cricket. It's basically The Wave, as we know it, but with the addition of the throwing of anything near at hand - beach balls, beer cups, half-full open soda containers... Australians are famous for being sports fans, and for their organized cheers. This was no exception. The Mexican Wave made it around the entire arena several times in a row.
